Leeds today: cheese, ginger, marathon, radio, and choirs.

Hi there BGL fans, it’s Elly here giving you a round up for the days news, and that.

First, quick reminder of events:

TONIGHT it’s the Horsforth Choral Society carol concert at 7.30pm at St Margaret’s Church (includes tootling brass band). Bring your singing voices.

TONIGHT it’s also the BGL Christmas Drinks from 5.30pm at the Town Hall Tavern. If you’d like to come along and meet the people behind your daily news round up, do join us! We promise we won’t let it turn into a meeting.

THURSDAY sees (hears?) Leeds Indie Radio having a Christmas special at 7pm, and here’s a tasty little video to whet your appetite (PS Where’s the BGL Christmas video of us all in cosy jumpers?!).

FRIDAY it’s Culture Vulture’s Friday Picnic, on the theme of a Winter Gingerland. I have the day off to do Christmas shopping and lead/panic the Ginger Snap singers, so you have to come! Plus it’ll be like a pre-Bettakultcha get-together (which is next Tuesday, by the way) and you don’t have to be ginger to go. You’ve just got to appreciate the power of the ginger.

Onto the news…

Katie Entwhistle over on the Leeds Forum is looking for photos of Pudsey from the 60s and 70s to help trace her family’s furniture shop – can you help?

Next week, from 21st – 23rd December, Cornucopia will be back at the Corn Exchange following its roaring success earlier in the year – more info on My Life in Leeds.

South Leeds Life reports that the consultation over the future plans for Hunslet Cemetery will be closing on Friday, and you can find out more (and have your say) by looking at the Facebook page of Friends and Relatives of Hunslet Cemetery Group.

Paul Clarke has written a great review of the latest Homage 2 Fromage group meeting over on Culture Vulture, featuring a photo of a massive bit of blue cheese.

The Guardian Northerner blog reports on the £11 million that will be spent on developing the Leeds-Bradford airport terminals – but, as they note, the £2 drop off fee will still apply. OUTRAGE.

Also on the Guardian Northerner, the story of a marathon runner who finished the Kielder Race in October…by getting on a bus?

Think that’s it for today ladies and germs. Hope you’re having a suitably festive day and looking forward to Christmas which is really freaking soon. Remember to send us your news and views – and if you come along to the pub tonight, you can even tell us IN PERSON. Have fun and ciao!
