Leeds today: apprenticeships, Harry’s, Munro, quiz, and clubbing.

Morning all! Hope you had a fabulous Monday and looking forward to the rest of the week. It’s Elly here with your news round up for today, which doesn’t include snow (although there is still quite a lot of the stuff about).

Fans of Harry Ramsden’s will breathe a sigh of relief as the original chippie at Guiseley has been rescued by a competitor, the Wetherby Whaler fish and chip shop group (great name). The company intends to restore Harry’s to its former glory, so keep your eyes peeled for more BREAKING FISH AND CHIP SHOP NEWS.

Leeds City Council is hosting an evening of celebrations with the first Leeds Apprenticeship Awards tomorrow evening. There will be 10 awards for young people in apprenticeship schemes and their employers.

The BBC reports on an incredibly sad story of a young (very young) couple who both died of multiple injuries sustained after a fall after they jumped from separate ledges on a tower block in Leeds. The exact details aren’t clear but both individuals suffered from alcoholism and depression and were nearly two and a half times over the legal limit on the night they died.

Munro House is looking for someone to create something spectacular for the outside of the building: more details over on Culture Vulture. This could be a great project for university students, young graduates and those individuals who want to really make their mark on the city.

Hebe Media have a short post about a cool project they’re working on with Leeds Gallery focusing on Back to Basics and the 90s clubbing scene in Leeds.

South Leeds Life has a fun little poll asking ‘how much do you know about Middleton?‘ as part of a larger project called the Middleton Life local history project – more details on their blog.

Dan Ladds and Ivor Tymchak have teamed up on a project of great importance: doughnuts. Well, actually, how keeping doughnuts out of schools could be a very good thing – read more here.

And if you haven’t checked it out already, then have a look at Leeds Playlist, created and curated by the effervescent @wandapops – some great tunes on there and what a cool project!

That’s it for today, have a great Tuesday and don’t forget to have a bit of FUN with your day. I suggest bopping around the kitchen at work and pretending not to notice when people come in. Ciao!
