Leeds today: comedy, art, fashion and flowers.

Good morning starshines! It’s Elly here with your news and whatnots from around Leeds and the greater area.

We’re a little thin on the ground this morning with independent, interesting news so it’ll be a short one. Please do remember that BGL works best when we have input from you, dear readers, so make sure you send us your upcoming projects, small snippets of interesting news, and even the odd press release to beyondgdnleeds[@]gmail[dot]com.

If you do send us any information, please do also ensure that all the outbound links work – there was an interesting story we had information on this morning but couldn’t get hold of any information due to broken links. Unfortunately we don’t always have the time to go researching so the more information you can give us, the better!

On with the show, anyway.

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is coming up soon and this time, Yorkshire is going all-out for gold with a miniature recreation of the moors surrounding the Bronte sisters’ home. Have a look over on the Guardian Northerner for more information.

Chris Harlow has a guest blog review of the recent Frisky and Mannish comedy standup show over on Culture Vulture that involves both the Bee Gees and Rihanna.

Over on South Leeds Life, there’s a short piece about schoolchildren from Cockburn School interviewing members of the Middleton Life history project on their memories of the area.

New Young Leeds, a great artists’ collective in our fair city, has another open call for their annual show – it’s simple to enter and free too, so a great opportunity for new and emerging artists. Check the details out over on East Street Arts blog.

Angel in the North has a great post with some beautiful images about unique and independent designer fashion in Barnsley. Yes, Barnsley. You learn something new every day! Make sure you check out her blog.

And here’s a shameless plug – if you fancy winning a pair of tickets to see a brilliant fashion photography film, Bill Cunningham New York, at the Hyde Park Picture House this Saturday, head on over to my blog to enter.

And finally: our esteemed colleague here at BGL towers, Kirsty aka @gazpachodragon, won the quiz at Dock Street Market last night. Well done team!

That’s it for today – a little short but hopefully enjoyable. Have a great (if grey) day. Ciao darlings!
